Scheduling Creativity

This blog post, titled “How to Find Your Hidden Creative Genius,” really resonated with me. Four years of tireless blogging helped me land my dream job at WordPress.com. But ironically, now I find myself having way less time to write, whether on my blogs or freelancing for various random sites.

That’s why I was glad to read the section on scheduling creativity, because it helped reinforce something I just started doing two weeks ago. Every day now, for half an hour before I start my work day, I just sit and write. No editing, no specific article or blog post in mind. Just… write.

Man, I’ve come up with some awful crap during that half hour. But then again, at least I’m writing, and that’s the important part. I can always go back and enjoy the agony of editing later on.
